FEEDBACKS
Week 1
Module Briefing. No Feedback.
Week 2
General Feedback:Share the complete folder titled "202303 RES60604 NAME (DA/ED/SD/ID)" which includes the Research Proposal, Critical Review, Primary Data, and Reflection Report, rather than sharing them as separate files. Additionally, it is important to go beyond simply documenting the research findings for a future dissertation and instead leverage them to advance the specific study and propose project articulation. It is crucial to carefully select a topic that aligns with the specialization boundaries and focuses on the relevant field of study, ensuring coherence and relevance in the research endeavor.
Since I am a student of digital animation and not studying branding, I need to be able to benefit from this research knowledge so that I can use this knowledge to promote a good animator in the future. Brand attitudes and purchase intentions are a strategy, that is something different than animation techniques. A successful strategy does not mean a good animation. Only when a good animation implements the strategy can it successfully promote advertising on demand.
Recommendation: Narrow down so that it is researchable, but still not far out instead of just focusing on strategies. Because it will dilute the contribution to the focus of the study on how could one be a good animator and what are the criteria to make one a good animator.
Week 3
General Feedback
It is advisable to download the references as PDFs, ensuring easy access and preservation of the original source material. Moreover, it is important to prioritize recent references to ensure the inclusion of up-to-date information and relevant scholarly contributions. Additionally, all citations should adhere to the APA 7th referencing system, maintaining consistency and accuracy in the citation format throughout the assignment. To ensure a thorough understanding of the assignment requirements, it is essential to regularly refer to the Module Information Booklet (MIB) and the curated assessment rubric, which provide valuable guidelines and criteria for the successful completion of the assignments.
Week 4
General Feedback:When working on the proposal, it is crucial to include citations for the Problem Statement, support the research and provide a foundation for the study. Properly referencing the sources strengthens the credibility and validity of the problem statement. It is important to note that the submission deadline for the Proposal is set for the 30th of April. To ensure timely submission, it is recommended to plan and allocate sufficient time for research, writing, and revisions. To enhance our skills in developing effective problem statements and identifying areas for improvement, it is highly beneficial to thoroughly study the supplemental resources provided.
Week 5
Public Holiday. No Class!Week 6
General Feedback:All work should be submitted on time through Google Classroom, while the critical review must be submitted by the 21st of May. To support this stage, utilize resources like Google Scholar, Mendeley, ResearchGate, and Taylor's Library Databases effectively. Remember to upload all PDF articles to the designated Google Drive folder. Amendments and revisions to proposals are allowed until week 6, with the submission deadline extended until the end of the month. When reading articles, focus on comprehending the critiques offered rather than reading the entire paper, and make sure to compare and contrast each piece to gain a better understanding of the topic.
Week 7
General Feedback:When engaging in article selection, it is crucial to consider whether it provides relevant secondary data that can be directly examined. Additionally, it is important not to rely solely on reading the abstract, but rather study the instruments, findings, and analyses used by other scholars in the article. To stay on track with progress, make sure to consistently respond to the Weekly Progress & Reflection Sheet. Evaluating and contrasting the articles, considering their expected approach, logical flow, structure, similarities, and flaws, is recommended. Critical reading requires both understanding and analyzing the information, ensuring a comprehensive and insightful approach.
Ensure that the research's title was prominently displayed on the cover page, as per the submission requirements. Carefully consider the words used in the research objectives. When it comes to ‘examine’, I have to consider the evaluation criteria, and it takes time, which might be beyond the scope of my current level. This will probably lead to an inappropriate outcome. So, changing the word to ‘identify’ or ‘understand’ is more adequate. The articles that have been selected must be compared and contrasted in order for me to fully comprehend each one.
Week 8
Independent Learning Week. No Class!Week 9
General Feedback:Comprehending our own research is crucial for its successful execution. When conducting a quantitative survey, it is preferable to have a minimum of 80 respondents to ensure the possibility of generalizing the results using quantitative methods. Conducting an instrument is necessary, and having a larger number of instruments can provide more comprehensive data. It is important to include open-ended questions to allow respondents the opportunity to provide detailed responses. By seeking more specific information, researchers can gain a deeper understanding and obtain more accurate insights. Additionally, when creating the questionnaire, it is essential to consider the target audience and use straightforward terms to ensure clarity, especially for those who may not be familiar with the specialized vocabulary in the study subject.
Specific Feedback:
Modify the research problem because it now more closely resembles the research objectives. It is better to add one more research question to balance the objectives of the research. Should not only provide an animated advertisement that effectively makes use of sound effects but should also provide a case of failure. Also, determine the type of animated advertisements to utilize.
Week 10
General Feedback:When conducting research, it is crucial to be realistic and consider the time constraint. Selecting one or two data collection methods is advisable, and it's always prudent to have a backup strategy in case of any unforeseen issues. The survey form's description should clearly outline the importance and significance of the research to encourage participation. It is important to ensure that the questions are well-qualified and effective in gathering the desired information. To facilitate the analysis step, it is recommended to have a numbered list of the questions, making it easier to organize and interpret the data.
Along with maintaining the same film genre, it's important to guarantee the origin of the animation's production. Verify whether a professional team or a lone individual created the animation. The two videos that were chosen are both animated product advertisements, although one is for home appliances and the other is more of an amusement piece. It is preferable if I can add one more that is in the middle so that there is less contrast. If I wanted to conduct the qualitative methods by having a focus group, I must take into account the legitimacy and professionalism of every single participant who might offer me reliable data and impactful information. So, I can't just have my friends for the discussion. Unless I have a combination of members that includes an advertising lecturer, an individual who works in the advertising industry, an animator, etc. So that they have the qualification to respond or engage in the discussion due to their experience and expertise. In that case, it might only work.
Week 11
General Feedback:When creating the survey description, it is essential to maintain conciseness and avoid excessive wordiness, while also refraining from using the first person. A clear and succinct description helps to engage respondents effectively. Additionally, ensuring a diverse and adequate sample of respondents is crucial for comprehensive and reliable research outcomes. A diverse participant pool enables a broader understanding of the research topic, while an adequate sample size enhances the statistical significance of the findings.
The introduction needs to be shortened and simplify, which still embodies the significance of the study. Also, check for typos and make corrections. The different lengths of the two videos will also affect the result. Make sure each question is numbered whether by section or by continuation. Anyway, having the visual analysis for my research is helpful as I am using two clips in the survey to support the decision on my quantitative instrument.
Week 12
General Feedback:Submitting the weekly progression sheet in Google Classroom, a designated window will be provided for submission. It is crucial to include the e-portfolio blog link in the sheet, ensuring that all relevant information is consolidated. To avoid confusion and misinterpretation, it is advised to review the provided sample in Google Classroom, which serves as a helpful reference. Justifying the chosen methodology(s) in the survey is essential to provide a clear rationale for the research approach. It is highly important to have a thorough understanding of our own research to ensure its coherence and validity. Finally, it is essential to validate that all links provided are accessible for future reference, ensuring that they remain functional and accessible to the intended audience.
While not acting in the capacity of a researcher and applying the context based on the question design on visual analysis, I may also put myself in the viewer's shoes. So that I may subsequently compare and contrast my perception with that of the respondents using the quantitative research tool I've chosen.
Week 13
Public Holiday. No Class!Week 14
General Feedback:limiting it to a maximum of five minutes. Select the top three articles from the Critical Review that have had the most significant impact on your research to highlight during the presentation. Don't hesitate to seek help and guidance from others if any issues or challenges arise. Make sure to set up the presentation slides and ensure that the presenter, slides, and audio are clear and well-coordinated in the video recording. It is highly recommended to use the forthcoming semester break to strengthen your research, as it will greatly benefit the dissertation module in the upcoming semester.
